Dissipation enhancement by transport noises and applications

A talk in the Bielefeld Stochastic Afternoon series by
Dejun Luo from AMSS, CAS, Beijing

Abstract: In this talk we will consider some nonlinear PDEs perturbed by multiplicative noise of transport type, and discuss the phenomenon of dissipation enhancement. It turns out that, under a suitable scaling of the noise, such stochastic PDEs converge weakly to a deterministic PDE with enhanced dissipation. This allows us to obtain better well posedness result for the approximating equations; in particular, possible explosion of solutions is suppressed, yielding long time existence with large probability. Recent attempts in obtaining quantitative convergence rate will also be mentioned. This talk is based on joint works with Franco Flandoli and Lucio Galeati.
