We investigate a Crouzeix-Raviart FEM for variational problems with non-autonomous integrands and non-standard growth. While conforming schemes fail due to the Lavrentiev gap phenomenon, we prove that the solution to this non-conforming scheme converges to the global minimiser. This talk is based on join work with Johannes Storn (Uni Bielefeld) and Christoph Ortner (UBC).
