Grading of Triangulations Generated by Bisection

We consider triangulations generated by the bisection algorithm of Maubach and Traxler in any dimension. We prove the existence of a regularized mesh function with grading two. This generalizes and sharpens previous results in two dimensions to arbitrary dimensions and yields the $H^1$-stability of the $L^2$-projection for dimensions smaller than seven. The proof uses a novel generation based formulation of the bisection algorithm.
