Extremes in Self-Similar Fragmentation Processes

A talk in the Oberseminar Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics series by
Piotr Dyszewski from Wroclaw University

Abstract: In this talk, we will examine a self-similar fragmentation process with index a>0, which models the evolution of particles breaking into smaller fragments over time. In this framework, the breaking rate of a fragment of size u is proportional to u^a. I will present fine asymptotic results concerning the size of the largest fragment in the process.
