I will give an overview of some aspects of the theory of random matrices over finite fields. We will touch on how this theory differs from classical random matrix theory and also on how some classical tools can be adapted to this setting. Finally, we will discuss some recent developments that is joint work with Hoi Nguyen and Sean Meehan.
