Sobolev spaces of metric spaces

A talk in the Geometric Analysis Seminar series by
Jun Kigami from Kyoto University

Abstract: In this talk, I will talk about the construction of “Sobolev” spaces on compact metric spaces. Actually, the theory of Sobolev spaces based on the notion of “upper gradient’’ has been developed since the late 1990’s and now it has become an established classical theory. However, recently Kajino and Murugan have found out that this classical theory can not be applied to a large class of self-similar sets including the Sierpinski carpet and the Vicsek set. In this talk, we will give a new construction of “Sobolev spaces” on metric spaces which can be applied to the above mentioned self-similar sets.

Within the CRC this talk is associated to the project(s): A3
