Quenching solution with a prescribed profile for the MEMS equation

Abstract: We study a parabolic equation of the heat type with a nonlocal term in the nonlinear part. We first review the dynamics of this equation both without and with the nonlocal term, as developed in the existing literature. In particular, we mention some construction results in some simpler regime of the parameters appearing in the nonlinear term. We then address the construction of a solution with a prescribed profile in the presence of the nonlocal term, in a critical setting. A formal derivation is provided to identify the candidate profile. Finally, we present numerical studies and simulations in a simpler setting, namely in the absence of the nonlocal term, which confirm and illustrate the results reported in earlier studies.
