Harnack inequalities for RWRE in balanced environments

A talk in the Oberseminar Analysis series by

Abstract: Random walk in random environment (RWRE) is a model for a random movement of a particle in a disordered medium. The aim is to understand a discrete-time Markov chain with random transition probabilities. For elliptic RWRE many interesting results, such as invariance principles, are known, while the picture is less complete in non-elliptic settings. Recently, Berger et al. (arXiv, 2018) proved a Harnack inequality and a quantitative homogenization result for balanced (random) difference equations in a non-elliptic setting. We give an introduction to probabilistic techniques for proving Harnack inequalities in non-elliptic settings and discuss future research directions such as extensions to parabolic cases. The talk is based on joint work with Noam Berger (TUM).
