What are Lyapunov exponents, and why are they interesting?

A talk in the CRC Block Course series by
Neil Mañibo, David Damanik

Abstract: This four-day, six-hour lecture series aims to present a general introduction to Lyapunov exponents for sequences of matrices, in particular those arising from linear cocycles. The lectures are structured to cover basic definitions, properties, and main results, as well as two applications in spectral theory, namely from the study of discrete Schroedinger operators, and from diffraction of aperiodic structures.
