Stochastic Dynamics of Confined Microswimmers

A talk in the Oberseminar Numerik series by
Alvaro Mateos-Gonzalez

Abstract: Motile biological cells such as E. coli bacteria and spermatozoa that move in confined fluids seem to be attracted by the boundaries of their domain. I will introduce two different mathematical models of the physical phenomena involved that are each able to describe the observations with accuracy, but whose range of validity is not fully known. I will then explore certain advantages of a stochastic variational inequalities approach coupled with stochastic control that I am using in an ongoing work with J. Fu, L. Mertz and M. Tang.
