Free boundary propagation and noise: numerical simulations and rigorous results

A talk in the Keine Reihe series by
Günther Grün from Universität Erlangen

Abstract: Finite speed of propagation and occurrence of waiting time phenomena are charact eristic features of degenerate parabolic equations. Most thoroughly, these issues have been studied for deterministic porous-medium equations. In this talk, we address stochastic porous-medium equations and we study the question how various versions of multiplicative noise (inside a source term – inside a convective term) influence expected values of waiting times and of propagation rates. For our quantitative results, we use Monte-Carlo simulations based on convergent discretization schemes, qualitative results are due to rigorous spde-analysis. Our results are based on joint work with Julian Fischer, Hubertus Grillmeier, and Nicolas Dirr.
