In the talk, the Hartree-Fock (HF) approximation in quantum
mechanics will be reviewed. The following particular aspect
will be discussed:
- Accuracy of the HF approximation,
- Lieb's variational principle and its generalizations,
- generalized HF approximation,
- symmetries and restricted HF approximation.
