The essential spectrum of the doubling map model
A talk in the Other series by

| Abstract: |
We consider a family of discrete half-line Schrödinger operators defined by continuously sampling orbits of the doubling map on the circle. By ergodicity, it is known that the essential spectrum is Lebesgue a.e. constant. We show that this set is an interval for every choice of continuous sampling function. The proof uses Johnson's gap-labelling theorem, so we will discuss some background related to this result.
